As globalization, travel and information communications technology have turned our world into a global village, as economic shocks and booms affect all of us, as diseases such as HIV, Ebola, Zika and Coronavirus know no borders, the imperative for African integration has become even more urgent in today’s world, history will judge us if we do not seize the moment. Free movement of people, goods and services is among our flagship projects for 2023 and making Africa’s borders more permeable could be a huge boost for trade and tourism on the continent.Â
More than ever in the era of globalization, ideas traverse geographic, generational, and cultural boundaries, even as national borders seem to be closing. Beyond Our Borders: Global Africa reflects on this moment by considering how Africa and its diaspora have been at the center of complex histories of encounter and exchange for centuries. Bringing together a dazzling array of African Diaspora leaders from New York to Houston, the discussion will demonstrates the international scope and reach of African Union at 60 from Africa and the African diaspora. It also explores issues such as migration, good governance, and identity at play in the objects and their histories. Highlights include discussion and lectures. The discussion is accompanied by a fully-illustrated publication, the 60th in the Passport to Africa Books series. There is a shared understanding between the United States and African partners that the future success of African nations will depend on the leadership, skills, and ingenuity of the continent’s youth.

The 3-day summit continued efforts to strengthen ties with African partners and commemoration of the creation of the Organization of African Unity, formerly known as African Freedom Day and African Liberation Day, is held on May 25 every year. It is a day for Africans and those who love Africa to show the world that the continent is a force to be reckoned with and that the moment has come for African youngsters to define the Africa they want, on their terms, following centuries of being referred to in a negative and degrading manner.
The first day of the U.S.-Africa Diaspora Summit kicked off with a focus on the vital role of civil society and the strength of our African diaspora communities in the United States. The summit is about building connections. It’s about closing deals and above all, it’s about the future, our shared future. Africa belongs at the table in every room — in every room where global challenges are being discussed and in every institution where discussions are taking place. The second half of the first day, promises to advance thought leadership and provide opportunities to learn from Africa / Diaspora leaders who are making a difference not only across Africa but around the world. In presentation format, speakers will explore what Africa looks like through the lens of five key topics — Youth employment in Africa, creativity and media, leadership competencies, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Trade and Investment—leading to a deeper appreciation of the challenges Africa face and offering strategies for addressing them.
The U.S.-Africa Diaspora Summit is built for professionals and entrepreneurs who are distinguished leaders in their communities and industries. We will host a group of leaders at SAID INSTITUTE for a discussion on global challenges and to realizing the vision we all share: a world that is free, a world that is open, prosperous, and secure. shared success and opportunity. Come dressed in your best African inspired clothing and accessories and let’s discuss how we can strengthen and unify the Diaspora. It is an opportunity for our African/American brethren to visit motherland - Africa to get first hand information regarding our rich cultural heritage. Participants would educate themselves more with our norms and values.The 3rd day is where industry experts will be talking about: Business Credit and Funding, Marketing, Personal Branding, The Power of Networking, Legal Counsel, and more!
African Diaspora is a source of strength. It includes African Americans, descendants of formerly enslaved Africans, and nearly two million African immigrants who maintain close familial, social, and economic connections to the continent. The U.S.African Diaspora Summit will elevate the diaspora engagement to strengthen the dialogue between Africa and the diaspora in the United States and provide a platform for young African and diaspora leaders to fashion innovative solutions to pressing challenges. The summit will feature three breakout sessions on higher education, the creative industries, and environmental equity.Â

With a focus on the vital role of civil society and the strength of our African diaspora communities in the United States. It will feature sessions on topics ranging from trade and investment; to health and culture; to peace, security, and good governance.
